We read all 15 of Friday's MLB games: home teams went 14-1, and swept every one-run game
On a night the league is normally a 52.7% coin flip at home, the road won exactly once — Cleveland's 9-1 rout at Coors, an 8-run blowout, though not the night's biggest: that was Arizona's 9-0 shutout of Cincinnati, a home win. Every game decided by a single run went to the home team, three of them on a 10th-inning walk-off.

The Facts
Every team in Major League Baseball played on Friday, August 21, 2026 — 15 games, all 30 clubs, all final. We pulled the complete slate and read every result. Home teams went 14-1.
The lone exception was the Cleveland Guardians' 9-1 win at the Colorado Rockies — an 8-run gap at Coors Field, the one park in baseball where altitude, not the home dugout, usually writes the story. It was the night's second-largest margin, behind Arizona's 9-0 shutout of Cincinnati, which was a home win. Every other home team won. Of the 15 games, the margins broke down as six decided by one run, four by two, one by three, two by four, and the two blowouts of nine (Arizona 9-0 over Cincinnati) and eight (Cleveland's road win).
The close games are where the pattern hardens. Six games were decided by a single run, and the home team won all six. At least three of those ended on a walk-off in the 10th inning: Tommy Edman's single gave the Dodgers a 5-4 win over Pittsburgh, Leo Rivas's single gave Seattle a 6-5 win over the Cubs, and Alec Bohm's two-run triple gave Philadelphia a 7-6 win over St. Louis. The road team never won a game closer than eight runs.
The Analysis
A 14-1 home night reads as dominance, but the useful frame is how far it sits from the baseline. Across the 2026 season through Friday, home teams had gone 1,021-915 — a 52.74% win rate, the small, real edge that has held in baseball for decades. At that rate, the expected number of home wins in 15 games is about 7.9. Fourteen is nearly double. Under a simple constant-rate model, a night of 14-or-more home wins out of 15 lands around 1 in 1,000 mmodeled.
What makes the night more than a pile of home runs is where the edge showed up: in the games that were actually close. One-run games are the sport's coin flips, and the home side swept all six of them. Strip the walk-offs and the scores away and one number still survives — margin — and it points the same direction: the only team that won on the road needed a cushion the home teams never let anyone else build mmodeled. The road won when the game stopped being a contest, and only then.
Room for Disagreement
One slate is 15 games, and this is the honest ceiling on the story. A 14-1 night at a 52.7% home rate turns up roughly once every 1,000 slates by chance alone — and a season runs about 180 slate-days, so across a few seasons this recurs mmodeled. Unusual is not miraculous, and nothing about Friday says the home-field edge grew; it says the variance broke one way for one night mmodeled. One-run games being near coin flips cuts both directions: 6-for-6 is as easily luck as clutch, and the same teams could reverse it Saturday mmodeled. Coors is its own caveat — Cleveland's blowout there is a park story, not a road-warrior one mmodeled. What is not in dispute is the count: 15 games, one road win — an 8-run Cleveland rout that was the night's second-largest margin, behind Arizona's 9-0.
The View From
Any single box score Friday looked ordinary — a walk-off here, a blowout there. Read across all 15 at once, the night sorts into a shape no one game shows: the home team won every contest that stayed close, and the visitors escaped exactly once, by hiding inside the only rout that went their way.
