American wholly owns three of the airlines that fly as American Eagle — in June its mainline canceled 2.6% of flights, Envoy 3.4%, and PSA 6.9%, the highest rate of any reporting carrier
We read all 607,577 flights the 12 carriers filed with the DOT for June 2026. The two of American's three wholly-owned regionals that reported June flights — Envoy and PSA — canceled far more than its mainline, 3.4% and 6.9% against the mainline's 2.6%, even though, when they flew, their arrivals were no less punctual. The operating carrier is shown at booking, as DOT requires — but not that it can move the odds your flight operates at all.

How this was made. Models: Travel pod — Opus writer/editor · single-month DOT BTS On-Time pull, all 12 reporting carriers, U.S. domestic scheduled flights, June 2026. EXACT FILTERS (computed this run, Python csv): population = every row in the June 2026 file (607,577 flights; 12 distinct Reporting_Airline values). Cancelled = Cancelled==1 (10,019; 1.65%); Diverted = Diverted==1 (2,363; 0.39%); on-time arrival = ArrDel15==0 over rows with ArrDel15 present (74.29% of 595,195). Per-carrier cancel rate = carrier cancels / carrier ops: AA 2,281/86,464 (2.64%), MQ/Envoy 993/29,207 (3.40%), OH/PSA 1,437/20,871 (6.89%), DL 1,009/90,247 (1.12%), UA 452/72,791 (0.62%), WN 744/120,933 (0.62%), G4/Allegiant 69/12,663 (0.54%), YX/Republic 1,105/30,929 (3.57%). PSA is the max of all 12; Allegiant the min. The AA+MQ+OH pooled rate (4,711/136,542 = 3.45%) was computed but is deliberately NOT claimed in the piece — pooling a mainline with two regionals is not comparable to any single carrier's rate (retreated per Alden round-2). Piedmont (PT) reported 0 flights in this file. Storm days = the 3 highest-cancellation dates (2026-06-11, -12, -19), 36.7% of monthly cancels; off-storm cancel rates AA 1.72%, MQ 2.28%, OH 4.89% (ops and cancels for those dates removed). On-time arrival by carrier (ArrDel15==0), computed over ARRIVED flights (scheduled minus canceled/diverted), NOT over scheduled: AA 58,504/83,677 = 69.9%, MQ 22,126/28,100 = 78.7%, OH 14,005/19,346 = 72.4%; average ArrDelayMinutes over the same arrived denominators AA 28.6, MQ 17.3, OH 28.8. Cancellation code composition (all carriers): B/weather 65.9%, A/carrier 21.2%, C/NAS 12.8%, D/security 0.1%. Ownership of Envoy and PSA by American Airlines Group verified against the American Airlines Group overview and trade reporting. No statistical modeling; all figures are direct counts and ratios. Causal attribution of the regional-vs-mainline gap (route, fleet, network triage) is NOT computed from this file and is tagged accordingly.. Publisher of Record: Unruly Labs LP.
